NFC Tapwrite — Support

NFC Tapwrite writes web links to NFC tags. Type or paste a URL, tap Write to Tag, and hold your iPhone to a writable NFC tag. This page covers how to use the app and answers common questions.

Requirements

  • iPhone 7 or later with NFC, running iOS 16 or later.
  • A writable NFC tag (NTAG / NDEF-compatible).
  • NFC writing is not available on iPad or in the Simulator (no NFC hardware).

How to use

Write a URL to a tag

  1. Enter or paste a URL in the field (e.g. https://example.com).
  2. Tap Write to Tag.
  3. When the scan sheet appears, hold a blank or writable NFC tag to the top edge of your iPhone.
  4. A confirmation (haptic + status text) tells you the write succeeded.

Clipboard auto-fill — If you copy a link before opening the app, NFC Tapwrite offers to pre-fill the field. iOS shows a paste confirmation the first time; the check happens entirely on your device.

Recent writes — Your last 5 successfully written URLs are kept for quick re-use. Tap one to load it back into the field.

Siri Shortcut — Add the “Write a URL with NFC Tapwrite” action to your own Shortcuts and automations, and pass a URL in from other steps. Because NFC writing needs the on-screen scan sheet, the shortcut opens the app to complete the write.

Frequently asked questions

The write failed or the tag wasn’t detected. Hold the tag steady against the top edge of the phone and keep it there until you feel the confirmation. Some tags are slower to write than others. Make sure the tag is writable and not locked.

Can I write to a tag that already has data? Yes, as long as the tag is not locked/read-only. Writing replaces the existing NDEF content with your URL.

Why won’t the “Write to Tag” button turn on? The button enables only when the field contains a valid URL (it needs a scheme and host, e.g. https://example.com). Fix any typo flagged by the inline validation.

Does it work on iPad or in the Simulator? No. Those have no NFC write hardware. Use a physical iPhone (iPhone 7 or later).

What tags are supported? Standard NDEF/NTAG tags. The URL is stored as an NDEF URI record, so any NFC reader — including iPhone’s built-in tag scanning — can read it.
